Colchester Parks win Green Flag Awards

Three parks in the borough won coveted Green Flag Awards this year.

Two years ago a large group of Civic Society members headed off to Framlingham to visit a second batch of hidden churches that only Roy seems to know about. This time after coffee at the Swan at Lavenham, we set off in unexpectedly good weather to see Brent Eleigh, Hitcham and Kettlebaston, returning later for lunch.

Colchester Building wins Civic Trust Award

One of Colchester's more controversial buildings, the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall at the University of Essex, has won a coveted Civic Trust Award .

Colchester's Top Heritage Trees

Colchester Borough Council is looking for residents to nominate their favourite trees so that they can compile a list of ‘Colchester’s Top 12 Heritage Trees’.

Visit to Barsham

The village of Barsham is halfway between Beccles and Bungay, close to the Suffolk border with Norfolk. It is very rural and people seem sparse, so they all know each other. The weather – not very stable at the time – was kind to us and we escaped the showers.

Congratulations to Colchester’s Castle Park and High Woods Country Park for once again earning the coveted Green Flag Award.

Tree Planted in Memory of Jean Lamb

On Saturday 3rd March 2007 Colchester Civic Society planted a plane tree on Southway in memory of Jean Lamb. The tree will eventually replace the chestnut which has recently been cut back because of disease.

Again, many thanks to Jo for organising such a splendid visit to London. Good journey, sunshine all day long and lots to do. A number of us enjoyed lunch in the Methodist central hall, Westminster (pictured) before walking to the Churchill museum and cabinet war rooms situated in such a lovely part of London. So much to see, so much going on and all visits thoroughly recommended.
